Entenanger Stadt Kassel

The withdrawal of individual traffic around the Entenanger allows the place to give a new goal. In the future, not parked cars will take the place in possession, rather the pedestrian, strollers and visitors.

The historic context of the former Kassel's Old Town has been largely overlaid by reconstruction planning. From the former street, a focal point is emerged and shows great potential in its urban configuration. The adjoining buildings form the framework for a design that the Entenanger gives a new, distinctive 'face' and is in compliance with the changing needs of its users. The square is a specific 'place', which makes the identification of the local residents of the whole city district possible. In this sense, the design pursues an independent, consistent design of the entire square space. That is, from facade to facade, to integrate the Entenanger into the urban space seamlessly.

The possible restructuring of the parking deck at the Market Hall furthermore makes clear the additional potential of urban substance. Instead of using a monofunctional parking space, here, the free space can get with simple open space planning a new urban quality.

A new, constant coating area is placed completely with large potted plants in grid. Against the background of the historic buildings an opportunity is a gastronomic use. By the close relation to the form and materiality of the Entenanger it is create a further “stepping stone” which is the link between Königsplatz and Unterneustadt.
